Spartacus, not every liberal is like that. I will say, however, that living in the Willamette Valley in the Portland area, I do see a lot people claim to be open minded yet as soon as a conservative speaks, they're immediately dismissed as being backward idiots.

Thanks y'all! I'll have my husband scope the area out. We're anxiously waiting for for this Friday to come!

I hate all politics and the crap that comes with it but thats pretty much the truth. Most people in Houston dont even care about the next person enough to be worried about their religion or political stance. Completely different vibe than that whole pacific north west corridor where they try to sniff you out if they sense someone different than the other sheep.

Isnt Sugarland like the safest suburb around Houston lol? Show me a town with absolutely no crime and i'll pack my bags.

I brought my child to a playdate in Missouri City this weekend; it might be worth looking at. It's really close to town, especially the SW side of the city, and I was amazed that I drove 10 minutes to get there, and felt like I was in the country. They had a house with a huge yard, and an agricultural field across the street, and horses down the road. They are right near HW 90 which is far from charming, but convenient at least.

I have no idea how the schools are, but I imagine that what you'd save on the house would allow you to consider private schools. Anyway, if you visit and look at Sugar Land, you might also ask the realtor to see properties in Missouri City for comparison.

Thank you, I'll start researching Missouri City. We live across from some stables and two blocks from country roads....we love it! Having access to the city amenities but living in the country is definitely ideal.

Question. ..is it true that nearly everyone owns guns? Is it really necessary?

Exactly. Sugar Land is scary, Rosenberg is too blue-collar and hickish, Katy is too expensive, but apparently you can find some sort of paradise in north Richmond for under $175k.

And then add in there a comment about the necessity (or lack thereof) of gun ownership. Troll stew.

All great places to live, btw.

Judging by the last two comments, you are making an assumption that everybody is familiar with the area. By looking through police reports and real estate sites, plus this forum, those are the conclusions I have to go on. If you don't care for helping me find a place then why bother commenting? If anything, you are the ones "trolling"...good grief!

If you knew anything about where I currently live, you might understand the confusion. Almost no one I know has guns except for hunting or going to a shooting range. I can't fathom us needing guns for protection but apparently it's some hot topic in Texas. I was reading about a mom's group in Houston who was protesting people bringing guns to the zoo. That's not even a remote possibility here in Oregon so I'm wondering what the heck the real culture is like rather than going on stereotypes.

Um, I don't have a gun and none of my friends here in Sugar Land do either.

I even have a friend who is a vegetarian. Imagine that.

Probably better for you to stay in Oregon and not find out.

Apparently being rude and ill-mannered is what passes for social skills among leftists these days. People will accept you just fine here in Houston, or anywhere in Texas for that matter. But it does not sound like you are likely to be very accepting of them.

Seriously, if you are going to bring that uncivil and intolerant attitude with you, perhaps it would be better for you and everybody for to you to just stay where you are.

OP, please do not take this attitude as representative of what you'll find in Houston. It's a very friendly city.

Anonymous boards seem to attract people who want to vent their politics, even when it's not a political thread. That's just the internet.
