Planning to install security film for our new house and got quotes from 3 providers in Houston.
total sq.ft is 500+

solar-x - quoted 8000$-9000$ for 6mil security film

armorglass.com - quoted 6000$ for 8mil armor glass security film with armor coat

sun tech glass tinting - quoted 4000$ for 8mil solargard security film with armor coat

Every quote includes installation also.

I got the details of each company from folks who used it here and all 3 were given excellent ratings.

I wanted to get opinion/feedback from folks as to why could there be such a discrepancy between 3 installers and one of them was saying how come you got 4000$ quote and that means they are selling at loss and covering labor themselves etc. i.e. just charging for product so why will they do that etc..

Any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks

Make sure you look at your warranty information. Applying any sort of film to your windows may void the window warranty.

This is in the warranty info for the windows on my home:

This warranty is void if (i) another glass manufacturer replaces or repairs the glass; (ii) surface

films are applied to the surface of the glass; or (iii) the Windows are exposed to sandblasting,

chemicals, paints, stains, or other coatings.

Ever priced how much new windows would run you? I regret spending money on solar tint, but luckily I didn't get any security film.

Looking back I should have spent the extra money on new windows. New windows would provide superior security, long term value, lower noise levels, and better energy efficiency.

Wow has the price increased. Unless you have a lot of glass. I had it done a bout three years ago and it wasn't half of that.

There are a few other threads about this, use search function.

My job with Solar X was about 1/3 of yours, but it was 6 years ago.

^ Do these places have a minimum requirement in terms of sq.ft before they will take the job?

I don't think so. My house is 2300 sq ft with lots of windows though.

I have seen them doing very small tasks as well as very big so they do all sizes based on requirement.

I recently had my house done with Suntek for only $1700. 3000+ sqft and lots of windows - and lots of muntins so there was much labor involved. However, that was tint only - security film I'm guessing costs much more.
