Hi,

My wife and son are going to the USITT convention at the end of March.
Does anyone have suggestions for a reasonably priced and decent hotel/motel within walking distance of the convention center? Also, what's the neighborhood like?
Thanks in advance.

Manny

hilton of the americas (or something like that) is next door to the george R brown convention center, which i assume is where your going. i would think your convention would b offering discounted rates there.
you will also be next door to the toyota center, chec their schedule for events.

you will be pretty much in the DT area, what do you want to do in houston ? you'll be near the light rail, the rejuvinated DT area also. zoo is close, galleria is minutes by cab...

Thanks Bily. The Hilton is a possibility but they do tend to be a bit pricey even with discounted rates. Is the downtown area pretty decent near the convention center.
I haven't been in Houston in 30 years!

There is a Holiday Inn Express at Leeland and Hamilton which is close. That end of town is rather desolate in the evening so there really isn't much to walk to in the evening nor would I feel safe walking at night unless there was an event going on at the Convention Center or Toyota Center and a lot of people are already out. Farther away is a Residence Inn and a Courtyard - also desolate area at night but right on light rail line should one choose to take it to museum district or just up and down main street.

There actually is a new park in front of the GRB (VERY nice), so it isn't tat "desolate".

I think you can find some nice rooms in the Hilton Americas (may be pricey). I think the Residence Inn would be a good choice.
