This is more of a general question because I do not have too many specifics as to where I will be working. I want to move to Houston around Jan. 2016. I am not looking for a house right away so apartment renting is what I am looking for. Now, I notice a lot of communities, however I do not see any private rentals. Is there anyway to find apartments that are not part of a community? If so what is the best way to find them. I have always live in communities in NJ and was entertaining the idea of not having neighbors on top or below me for once. Any help is appreciated.

Are you asking about rental houses? If so:

Texas Real Estate and Texas Homes for Sale - HAR.com You can look for rentals, select the area, max price etc...

Private rentals will often just put a sign in the front yard. Driving around is the best way to find them.

I was asking about rental apartments. (Private homes rather than complexes) Also I wouldn't mind renting a house if the price was right. I've been searching craigslist, but everything seems like a scam to me.

Private homes versus an apt complex? Wouldn't that be renting a house?

Look at Texas Real Estate and Texas Homes for Sale - HAR.com instead of Craigslist.

I will be more specific. I was wondering what the non-complex options are in Houston. I would want a 1BR and really the only amenity that I am looking for is a yard for my dog. Really I am looking for an alternative option from having a ton of neighbors and having a private yard for my pup.
Would the best option be a condo rental? Also what is the best way to find that? Apartments.com and Craigslist is what I am using, but they show complexes. I am not totally opposed to a community, however I want to see the options out there.

1 bedroom apartment with a private yard isn't going to be easy (maybe impossible) to find. What is your budget?
