Turn on the outside light, make sure they hear my shotgun **** and load, and loudly tell them to get the ### off my property.

Depends on who's home. If it was me, since I'm an arrogant sob, I'll let them know I'm home and tell them to not come back since they can't come at a proper time. If it's just my wife and kids, I tell her to make sure they know someone is home but don't come to the door. Then have a phone ready to call 911.

Oh I have something that will take care of that problem, should it ever arise.

That's a good idea. I wonder what the cost is?

People shouldn't really be soliciting in the dark. I wouldn't answer the door.

Someone did this to us last week - my husband sat on the porch for 30 minutes being polite and speaking to her until 8:15pm through a torrential downpour (he's in sales so always answers the door knockers). I felt like they planned their visit purposely on a rainy night so that people invite them in or feel guilty for them.

This particular lady was selling books...
