where can I find something like this in Houston? are there any bbq cooking schools or one day courses I can join? Ive never been much of a cook, I always undercook or burn the chicken on the weber grill. I have mastered the tasteless crockpot brisket and I can make a mean burnt hamburger patty... lol Im looking to learn some tricks. I recently bought a Cookshack Fast eddies PG500 Wood pellet grill so im hoping this will help conceal my bad cooking skills...

Before you take a course, go spend a lot of time reading amazingribs.com . I can almost guarantee you will learn more in a couple of hours reading that site than you would in a single day course. Good luck!

Check out leisure learning for cooking class.

But cooking and experimenting is more fun.

Google something from a chef like Bobby Flay, try it and bring to a pub for snacks. Free lab rats.

You bought a $1,600 grill????? WOW!
On their website is a cooking guide:
Cooking Guide | Cookshack
and video cooking classroom:
Video Cooking Classroom
There are many YouTube tutorials that are probably much better than one-day class...
How to BBQ tutorials - Google Search
Cookshack Fast eddies PG500 Wood pellet grill - Google Search
BBQ 101 - Google Search Video tutorials
And

Have fun!

Fast Eddy's by Cookshack PG500 Pellet Grill

This thing is a work of art.

Most people who can't grill start off with a Walkabout or maybe an Old Smokey.

Good luck, sir. I salute you.

Forget the classes. There's so much footage online, you could probably learn it yourself in a few weeks. I really like this guy who has his own TV show on PBS, Steven Raichlen. His show is called Primal Grill, but he has his own website with a lot of Youtube videos: Primal Grill® with Steven Raichlen

I also like these guys out of St. Louis: GrillinFools | Step by step, picture by picture, foolproof instructions on How to Grill

Have fun out there. Especially with your fancy new car--er, grill.

I started smoking this year. Bought a Weber Smoky Mountain bullet cooker. I learned by just practicing. I have two books, one is from Weber itself, something like Smoking with Weber. The other is by Myron Mixon. Read the books, try what they suggest. Read online sites too. Every weekend I make something, and after a few weeks, you start to get the hang of it.

Practice practice practice. I wouldn't go to a class until I had smoked maybe 10-12 times. Otherwise you have no idea what they are talking about. But after a few smokes, then when they talk about heat levels or sopping or rubs, you'll know what they mean.

The best part about practicing is getting to "try" your experiments at the end. Mmm good!
