I don't see the new system saves any electricity by doing that way, and I don't think it will last longer by flashing on every single vehicle passing through.

I saw that several times tonight, including the car in front of me and the car behind

Anyone know what that is?

I do have Ez tag.
It takes a photo of your license plate.

Common sense, get it together!

Taxes aren't used on toll road upkeep / upgrades, money collected from tolls is. There may have been some other reason for the new cameras other than lasting longer / saving electricity. Better images maybe? When they opened 99 between 290 and I-10 they captured a perfect image of the plate on a car going 200mph.

Yeah, because a split-second flash every so often is just such an energy drain and electronic components are just going backwards in technology.

I just drove the grandparkway from 249 to sugar land and back. Those lights are so bright. I have a migraine now. I tried to close my eyes before I went under the toll plaza but I really couldn't. Can you make them not so bright?!

Are the camera flashes on the Grand Parkway really that much brighter than at the toll plazas on all the other toll roads? Admittedly I haven't driven the newer stretches of Grand Parkway at night, so I haven't noticed. Are the toll plazas illuminated? If not, maybe thats why the flashes seem so much brighter?

It's probably because Texans are used to drive on lighted limited-access roads (freeways/tollways), unlike Californians. I had the same thing happen to me on Ash Wednesday after spending the evening with a friend in Spring.

To the OP: Most people have never noticed the flashing camera until now because of the light pollution along the Sam Houston Tollway. The camera is just there in case the EZ Tag doesn't read for some reason and to catch scofflaws.
