I have noticed a few vehicles recently in my area (South Katy) sporting stickers that say "Spoiled Oilfield Wife." I thought the first one was weird, but now I have seen several more since.

Is this a thing? Is this something to be brag worthy? It sounds cringe worthy to me.

I am a mom of 3 school aged children, so I have met my share of oilfield wives through my kids' friendships, clubs, & activities. I can't imagine any of them wanting to define themselves as a "spoiled oilfield wife." Yes, most stay home, and most live in very nice houses. But they will also tell you how they have to move across the world at the drop of a hat. How the dads have to be gone months at a time. New babies being born? Your high schooler is about to graduate? No say, the oilfield owns your life. The money is good, but there's a reason for that.

"Spoiled Oilfield Wife" doesn't sound like a cute bumper sticker to me. It sounds like an insult. It sounds like you're a vapid empty headed woman with too much time on your hands, so all you do is shop and get your nails done.

I would be insulted if someone called me a "Spoiled (enter husband's occupation here) wife, because I am more than that. Even if I am not the breadwinner, I'm not a kept woman.

So seriously, is this a thing? Do you think this is cute or clever? What am I missing?

I like a good tongue & cheek. I can give a wink & nod at sarcasm, or at being a little self depreciating. But something about these bumper stickers just made me cringe. Why is that?

This thread may get ugly quickly and get closed. There is truth to your post though.

Chaulk it up to The Real Housewives Syndrome. Cheap and tacky imho. But there is a culture of women who are really into that stuff. Bedazzled and all. Cringe.

Ps: yet to see that bumpersticker.thank goodness.

Pretty much.
Sounds like a new idea for another housewives reality show.

I'm just surprised a bumper sticker can cause such a reaction.

Your statement above isn't always the case. It seems like you have some preconceived notions about the industry that aren't accurate.

I wouldn't (nor would my wife) have that sticker on our vehicles, but to each his own I suppose.
