I live in an active seniors apt. complex near Houston, TX. Recently we have had 3 inspections. My Apt. Mgr. tells me I cannot have any boxes inside my apt. I moved out of a much larger place and I have boxes of medical records, medical supplies, cd's, DVD's, and some personal possessions. Everything is in good condition and in small moving boxes. These boxes are stacked on my spare bedroom and nothing blocks the ability to walk freely through my apt. My Apt. is clean just I have a lot of boxes. My Apt. Mgr. says ALL boxes have to go. I am disabled and live on a fixed income I cannot afford to pay to rent a warehouse. Is this legal. She told me it is in my lease but I cannot find it anywhere.

Have her point out where it is stated in the lease.

Bring your lease and ask her to point it out to you.

If it is in there, here's what I suggest: Find a way to buy those plastic containers and transfer the contents of the boxes into the containers. Here's an example that you can find at Target.

I agree. Ask her to show you in the lease. If it is then you are out of luck. If not specifically addressed then don't let her bully you.

Maybe because boxes attract bugs (roaches in particular). I agree with the other posters of having her point it out to you in the lease.

Agreed with the above poster, if the issue is because of bugs, you can get plastic bins at Wal-Mart for dirt cheap.

Sounds like they are trying to deter hoarders (might be a general clause in the lease about "storage") and this manager is taking it too extreme. Chances are they will interpret "boxes" to include containers and bins of any material, cardboard/plastic/rubber/etc.

I'd say it depends on how many boxes you have. Easy solution would be to go to the Container Store and organize your stuff. All that cardboard crammed into one room sounds like a fire hazard.

I understand that your on a fixed income and spending money to buy containers may be a strain but it sounds like you'll be in an even worse financial situation if you get evicted.
