Greenway or Brookhollow is not that bad of a commute from Sugar Land. However if Greenspoint is you final destination, there are many other places you should consider. I live in Sugar Land and commuted for over 3 years close to Greenspoint. You will get tired and later will realized you much time of your life was wasted in a car. I did it because it was at that time a good job and I did not want to move from Sugar Land. Now, I will not do it. As a family man, I prefer spending my time with my family than in the car.

I agree, you will see more of your car than your children if you live too far away from work, and its only going to get worse around here in years to come. In Houston the quality of life has a lot to do with the proximity to work. However many feel that 45 minutes each way, without wrecks, isn't a big deal. Personally I'd like to make it to the kid's ball game on time and not all wigged out from the commute.

Beltway 8 is bear during rush hours. Heights would be my area of choice for your situation. Reverse traffic commute to Greenspoint, straight shot in to downtown and close to the kids for your wife.

Timbergrove is a drive down 11th Street from the Heights; not far at all. Sinclair Elementary in Timbergrove is okay. You may want to look into Travis and Harvard in the Heights and Oak Forest across 610 if your kids are in elementary. All those are in the vicinity, but you have many additional options for private schools inside the loop as well, plus you'd be close to Uptown, Memorial, Spring Branch, etc. which gives you even more options.

None of the streets near me have had a break-in in the 7 years I've lived in Timbergrove (Queenswood Ln). Less crime here than the Heights, but not nearly as big or as much interesting architecture, admittedly. We have more trees per capita though, by a long shot. Heights maybe 7-8 times the population of Timbergrove.

We have a new city wilderness park in the heart of Timbergrove! Check out the following website which has NOT been updated with the news that the city has now taken over the 21 acre park and saved it from development:

http://www.west11thstreetpark.org/ (3 blocks from my street.)
Timbergrove is pretty and quiet though, and much greener than the Heights. That's what I like about it.

I'm glad to find that park was saved. I remember seeing all those "Save Our Park!" signs last year.

Greenspoint is also known as gunspoint. I would not try to live close to there. I live in The Woodlands and worked downtown, commuting by bus and by van. I always advise people to be here a little while before making that decision. Rent for 3-6 months first. If you are not going to be here long, then maybe I would advise otherwise. Sugarland is a huge commute via a terrible freeway system that is clogged up by rebuilding too late. I would strongly advise against that place for at least two years.

Terrible freeway system? You should try the SF Bay Area or LA! Talk about torn up.

Or San Antonio or Austin -- good luck getting anywhere there.

Portland, OR has good freeways but they are pitifully narrow and slow.

I'm sure there are STILL worse systems out there than just those.
