I've had a chip & 2 (!) windshields replaced & my insurance did NOT go up . So maybe it depends on your insurance?

It depends on the insurance. My window was broken into and there was some significant damage done to the door panel as well. The insurance paid the claim and at the time of next renewal, my insurance went up by $50 for 6 months. Thats not the bad part. I got horrible quotes from different insurance agencies when I tried switching due to the $50 increase. The problem is that every time you file a claim no matter whose fault it is, it show up as a negative at the time of applying for new rates. Thats how they get you. So best way is to not file a claim if possible. Otherwise don't switch your insurance.

Those guys dont stay long at any given car wash so, by the time the windshield repair fails, they're long-gone.

I personally wouldn't file a claim over a $50-100 window repair unless you can somehow be certain it won't affect future premiums.

But it didn't cost me anything upfront, nor did my insurance go up.

yes, it does and i know Geico treats it as a claim. Similar for roadside assistance as well. Geico will treat each call as a claim. When i spoke to StateFarm, the rep said they don't treat roadside assistance calls as claims.

exactly why i didn't go to one of those guys off of hwy 6 with a sign saying free windshield repair. I ended up using Ace Chip N' Crack and his work is guaranteed for 10 years.

But wouldn't asking them for insurance cash price actually be higher? Since they know you will go through insurance, they will give a higher quote as opposed to just telling them you pay cash instead?
