Canino Produce on Airline. There are also farmers stalls in the back. Great place to wander. And you can buy directly from the farmers.

Farmers Market. There are lots of them all over Houston. Google At stores it would be Central Market or Whole Foods, but that not cheap.

I thought Sprouts was a produce place, or Whole Foods was another store.

There is a Farmers market in Midtown off Travis, and another one off Airline was mentioned.

from my understanding Central Market and Whole Foods generally cater to the more upscale crowd, i'm looking for a poor man's produce place. Something one would find in an ethnic part of town, for example in bklyn (for anyone from there) we have Three Guys from Brooklyn or Circus Fruits Inc.

cheers

The HEB on West Alabama and the Kroger on Montrose usually have good produce, fresh and well displayed. They aren't as expensive as Central Market or Whole Foods. Kroger tends to run out of popular advertised items by Saturday afternoon.

Houston's smaller farmers' markets (not the one on Airline) are open only on certain days. They have an upscale appeal -- many items tend to be organic, locally grown, and are priced accordingly.

If you go to Caninos on airline, be sure to walk to the back as the prices seem to get better the further back you go.

Also, Fiestas almost always have amazing produce for cheap.

If you're interested in picking your own veggies, go to the Emile Street Farm in the fifth ward. All organic urban farm where you can pick your own veggies and it's really cheap. During the week you need to go before 3 pm. But on the weekend it seems to stay open until dark.

Viet Hoa off the beltway. Fresh, cheap, amazing fruits and produce. Hard to find produce also.
