Looks like the city is coming up with a 5-year plan for furthering the growth of our arts scene:

Arts Town: Mayor Parker touts new 5-year, $85 million cultural budget - CultureMap Houston

I was surprised at the 146,000 number of people employed in the arts though. Obviously we have a ton of arts organizations around town, so I'd be interested to find out the numbers and how they counted it.

Think of all the museums and the number of people they employ to city organizations and councils than all the theaters and their organizers.

What Houston spends , we more than make up in revune... You would have been one of those peopel crying about how discovery green was going to be a waste of money since no one will go to a park in Downtown. Nevermind the fact that DG has clearly had a ecomonic impact on the area

You are correct. Cities would be so much better to live in without arts, parks, and sports.

Right this draws from the hotel tax, which sole purpose was to fund projects like this....That is like saying I am mad because you spent the money I gave you on the thing, you told me you were going to spend it on..lol

Agreed. Quality of life is overrated. People would rather be mindless drones with little to no entertainment. We're all much more efficient at work when we are bored and miserable.

I just don't get people like this. Its coming out of Hotel taxes. Revenue from hotel taxes are earmarked for improvements that will bring in more tourist but they do not want to spend it on anything that will do just that.

Don't mind him. He's just a Tea Partier. He gets mad every time Metro gets some money to improve commuter/local bus service and tries to stop every rail project, especially the Richmond Ave line. But like Rep. Culberson, he doesn't mind when small businesses get razed for highway expansion projects.
