Recently purchased a new home in lakemont subdivision, our builder is Westin homes. I noticed a hairline crack on our Tile floor in the laundry room and Foyer entrance. Is this covered in our new home warranty? Moved in April 2013.

Most home builders give you a warranty booklet that states what is covered and what is not. Most new home warranties cover pretty much all defects for 1 year.

If you aren't sure, you could always submit a claim and they will determine if it is covered or not.

I like the tile.. looks like Travertine.. Travertine is a natural stone and a little softer than regular tile so it is a little easier to crack it. I would submit a warranty claim so that the builder can look at it. They might not cover it because the cause will be unknown although it might be an easy fix for them and they might fix it whether it is or isn't a covered item. I've had Travertine fixed before with filler an without the need to replace the tile and you couldn't tell. Also it's unlikely but they will look at it to make sure that it didn't crack because of a structural issue.

It is Travertine@TravisE...18x18 and TY.. I did sent out a request and one of the builders warranty coordinator replied saying the booklet states 1/8” crack, in width. Is this true? Now I’m more worried about it being a structural issue! I know it’s a new build and the house is settling in, but the hairline crack goes over 4 tiles. Do I need to have someone take a look at it, other than the builder?

I think it is 1 year but like other suggested submit a claim and see what happens. I have the same tile with the same issue.. looking for some to fix it cheaper since my warrantty has expired.

@Sullah. If you find somebody please let me know, just in case they don’t fix it. Thanks in advance.

just submit a claim....even things that are not covered may slip through. That's what I did when i first bought my home

I wish you will get lucky on this , after 1 year of warranty.

I forgot to get the second FREE key for the Garage Door opener - Gehan builders refused to give me that, since i asked them after 1 year.

It was my mistake...so i didnt complain , but they could ve done it....Westin is big builder compared to mine, so there is chance.....

Other Hand :
Same type of crack I have it on my floor near the back yard door area, I didn't fix it for 2 years. It didn't bother me, coz its kind of away from my eye sight.
I really don't know if anything will happen due to that crack, like water gets through while mopping or something....
