The NYT created a list of 46 places to go and see in the world in 2013 and Houston was the only U.S. city mentioned. Culture, food, and museums were behind their recommendation.

Here's the top 10 -

1.) Rio de Janeiro
2.) Marseille
3.) Nicaragua
4.) Accra, Ghana
5.) Bhutan
6.) Amsterdam
7.) Houston
8.) Rossland, British Columbia
9.) New Delhi
10.) Istanbul

Wow. I love Houston, but I don't think of Houston as a "must see" city over other U.S. cities, so I find this surprising.

Houston a "must see" city? Not so much.

Houston is so out of sorts, on the list provided. Look at those cities. Interesting coming from the NYT though.

If you take the time to read the article, you will see why Houston was selected. They picked us due to our world class arts, museum and restaurant scenes. There are plenty of travelers who aren't looking for beautiful beaches or snowy mountains.

Additionally, I think it's kind of like the "sexiest person" articles where they rotate them around. So it's not like they are saying Houston is better than New York, but it's more of a "why don't you give Houston a shot this year" kind of thing.

Houston should not be in the top 100 in the world. I love Houston, but really? This is the least tourist city I know of. This is a great city to live and work in. It is a blast for young people.

I've always suspected that people make these 'interesting' lists and then inserts something odd 1) to make it look like they know something you dont know 2) these are paid advertisement article 3) *the buzz* marketting is what the internet age is all about

I could name 6 cities off the top of my head in the U.S. and probably 12 in North America that beat us when it comes to museums and art. Restaurants, we are actually underrated.
