Hello,
I am moving to the Houston area from Indiana next August and am trying to be proactive and start gathering information now. I make a little over 50k and will be working from home. I am looking to apartment rent, have never been in the Houston area before, and am looking for suggestions for nice places to stay. While crime is everywhere, safety is my primary concern. I'd like to spend no more than $1200.00 monthly for rent.
Any help would be great appreciated!

I could never move somewhere I had never even visited. What makes you want to move here? Maybe you could come down for a visit first.

My job is relocating me there, and I do plan on visiting before I make a final decision of where I'll live. Do you have any suggestions, Glossa? I'm grateful for any suggestions. Thanks.

Will school be a concern for your kids? If so, what are their ages? And are there any amenities that are important to you, like whether you want a suburban or an urban area?

the key in houston is, if at all possible, to live close to where you work. do you know what part of town you'll be working?

hah. i missed that part, sorry

the cypress area and katy / energy corridor area are nice places to live, and affordable as well. you'll never completely avoid crime in a city this big but in my mind those are generally nicer safer areas of town to live in.

Katy, Sugar Land, Cinco Ranch and the energy corridor are all nice, safe areas. You can probably find a nice apartment there within your budget.

Katy, Cypress, Energy Corridor are good areas with good schools. You can find a 2 BR apartment for 1200 or so for a year lease.
