I remember a small Cuban community in Southwest Houston near the intersection of Bissonnet and Hillcroft. I don't know if that has grown in that area or moved on to other parts of the city.

I also knew a few Puerto Ricans as well, but no one centralized PR community or neighborhood. As others have said here, it's nothing like NYC or Miami.

I'm pretty sure I'm related to about 90% of the Dominican population in the Greater Houston Area (was raised in Missouri City).

I knew only two Dominican kids growing up, but was assured that other Dominicans were around in other parts of Houston proper. Befriended two Haitians. Didn't know any Puerto Rican nor Cuban kids. I also went to school in Sugar Land, so that is probably why.

It never made much sense to me that Texas' Caribbean population was as small as it is. Cuba itself is a straight shot from the coast.

IKR! Especially since Houston's weather is similar to the Caribbean then say, New York.

I've heard due to the crisis in PR, Texas now has a legit fast growing Puerto Rican population (not as fast as eastcoast states ofcoarse, but fast nonetheless) . I've heard specifically Houston has been receiving alot of Puerto Ricans fresh out the island. Is this true? I'm sure they've been receiving some, but to what extant.

I'm half-Cuban, half-Colombian & there are many Cubans in the westside & southwest part of town. My family is alongside Katy, TX (Cinco Ranch/N Katy area as well) & there are many recent arrivals in North Katy (close to Flor de Cuba restaurant) Hope that helps

The stream of Cubans has grown exponentially in last 2 years alone.
Personally spoken to a half dozen or so and all have pretty much the same story. 1st they fly to Equador ( only country that's does not require visa for Cubans). Then they travel up through Colombia , Panama, and rest of Central America, Mexico then finally US Texas border.
They simply go to the port of entry and they (unlike the rest of Latino immigrants) are welcomed with open arms and automatically get status.

The thing is that all this warming of us -Cuba relations makes then nervous that's their special status for immigrating to US will be taken away so people are literally lining up to get the hell out of Cuba before that happens.

Haiti is right next to Cuba
And I bet there's more Cubans in Houston than in Haiti

People from the Caribbean usually stay east of the Mississippi. None of the cities such as Houston, SF, even LA have a large Caribbean population.
