Hi We've learned that we have to purchase flood insurance with our lender. We've had it in the past and it was around $400...apparently we weren't in a flood zone..

I checked on the FEMA map, looks like we are now in a high risk area (we're in the memorial west area Wilcrest - north of Memorial) though our last home a mile away was in a low risk area..I was shocked to hear our rate for 250K building only coverage was just under 1300. Is that standard or not?

Mine went up from just under 400 to 1800 because FEMA says I have two claims...which I don't and can't seem to convince them that the two claims that I filed were on a different home. I moved out of that home after getting flooded 3 times and bought this home in 84. 3 years ago the NFIP hiked up my rates. It's funny that FEMA sends out a loss report every year and it says no claims but the NFIP doesn't care. I'm glad my home is paid for. Stooopid gooberment....
