I have recently joined the site to help gather info on Houston, in an effort to at some point facilitate a move back. Some background....born in Missouri City back in the late 70's, but moved to the northeast at a young age when my Father was transferred for his job. All of my family is from Houston and/or TX, parents went to Pearland HS together way back when. Anyway, after being up North for 16 years, I relocated to the mid atlantic after college for a job, which was a great choice since that is where I met my wife. About 7 years ago, my parents moved back to Houston as they couldn't stand the weather up North and missed the area after 20 years, and we visit them (Sugarland/Richmond area) at least a couple of times a year. Long story short....wife loves the area,we both love the food (real TX BBQ), and has expressed a desire to relocate there while the kids are still young. I've always wanted to move back so things are looking good, just have to find the right opportunity. I enjoy reading all of the threads about how Houston has changed over the years, I have fond memories of visiting family during the 80's and going to Astros games at the Astrodome, and visiting Astroworld, Shipleys donuts. Of course we've taken our kids to Brenham to the Bluebell factory about 4 times in the past 6 years....I got them addicted to it.

I am hopeful that my career field will help finding a job (Electrical Power Engineering, 12 years exp, PE licenses, first line manager, etc) but am leery of just throwing resumes out everywhere....maybe that is where it will end up. My father works for one of the large O&G EPC firms, and I have both EPC and utility experience, but not sure I really want to work at the same company. So I've started researching all of the Energy companies and websites looking for the right fit. The wife says I'm being a little picky but career progression is pretty important to me. Until then we'll keep visiting and see how things work out.

Enough about me, I look forward to participating on the board and reading through many of the threads on Houston. It has changed quite a bit since I was a kid, but I guess when you are from TX it's hard to let go...
