I live in The Woodlands, and am willing to drive to any location to get on the train, as well as return to that location by train to transfer into my car. Are there any passenger trains that run on the tracks next to 290? My destination is the AMF Windfern bowling alley on the south side of 290, just a little bit east of where the tollway/beltway crosses 290. Some friends invited me to the bar at Windfern and I am concerned about driving all the way home, but I'm not a big drinker, so a train ride part of the way would give me time to return to normal after no more than one or two drinks.

We don't have what you are looking for. No trains - and the buses don't run that late. You will have to take a taxi.

Thanks so much for your answer. I actually had a question about taxicabs: does Metro have a taxi service? Not being much of a city person, I rarely use public transportation (unless planes/flights count) but I seem to recall seeing Ford Crown Victoria cars with the Metro logo driving around in the city once or twice. Could they actually be "unmarked" transit police cars? Or perhaps they are taxicabs but follow strict schedules just as the buses do, and perhaps only stop in more rural/remote parts of the city where covered bus stops with seating aren't common?

I also may meet friends at a diner with a bar in Spring (at the intersection of Louetta and Stuebner Airline), so would a train be able to drop me off on Louetta? Driving down Spring Cypress I often have to stop for trains near the Kroger (was Albertsons years ago) at Spring Cypress and Champions Forest. These tracks also must cross Louetta but I can't exactly picture where they do. The lack of sidewalks isn't a big issue for me, as friends are willing to drive me from/to where I catch the train.

Uh....there's no train. I'm not even sure if there's so much as a horse out that way.

I don't mean to start a big debate or sound ridiculous, but I have a further curiosity: would riding a freight train to these destinations be legal or safe for me? I'll admit now that I have a minor fascination with trains of all kinds, but I never have actually been inside or seen the inside of a freight train. Would there be room in the passenger compartment for one extra person with no luggage? Only if I rode otherwise alone with a lonely guy I might have to be careful if he gets tempted to take a "break" with me...

Yes just take the Houston Subway. You may need to make a few transfers though.
