We are planning to move to Houston in a couple of months and my work is near the 77079 area (Hwy 10 and N.Dairy Ashford). We are looking at the Sugarland area and most likely looking at renting an apartment. Is the commute from Sugarland to (N.Dairy Ashford and Hwy 10) really bad? What kinda commute time can we expect?

Are there any recommendations in particular, in the Sugarland area for affordable apartments to rent? ($800-$1000 a month).

Thank you

Commute would be a min of 40 min one way with heavy traffic add 20 to 30 min. When you do a search look a max of 4 to 5 miles away from where you will be working should be able to find something in your price range

I guess I'd question why you would want live in Sugarland when you work in the EC, there are lots of apartments within a 10 minute drive.

You shouldn't have trouble finding an apartment or house near where you work plus you will be in Houston instead of a suburb if you like the city life. You will find Sugarland to be far from everything.

You do not want to live in SL and commute to the Energy Corridor. As ToyYot said, there are apartments within a very short drive of your work. The thing about Sugar Land is that they don't have newer apartment complexes in the city because they have denied almost all multi-family housing consturction since First Colony was annexed.

There are bunch of nice apartments on Eldridge pkwy between Briar Forest and Westheimer. Nice quiet area 10-15 minutes from your work place. Sugar Land is 25 min using the Sam Houston Tollway and cost 1.50 each way.

Now would your suggestions change if I work near the Energy Corridor and my spouse works near the George Bush Airport (Sam Houston Pkwy)? How is the commute from an area like Eldridge Pkwy (Energy corridor aprtments) to the airport area everyday?
How would this commute be from the Energy Corridor to the Downtown area every day?

Its just that my wife is currently seeing potential jobs near the airport and near the downtown area as well.

Sorry for the various options. We just want to be able to find a place so that the commute is not too crazy for either of us.

Yes. You might want to look at Katy or the Energy corridor area.

No. I live near the Sugar Land airport and when I was working in the Energy Corridor/Westchase it was 20 minutes unless there was a wreck or light out.

That being said, there are tons of apartments in the Energy Corridor area... probably a lot more to choose from than in Sugar Land.

You don't want Sugar Land if work is at the George Bush Airport... clear on the other side of town. You might look in Spring Branch/Spring Valley if you haven't already.
