Yahoo!

1. Houston
Number of burglaries: 27,459

Houston is best known as the location of NASA's Johnson Space Center and Mission Control Center. It also saw 108,336 property offenses in 2011, of which 68,596 were categorized as "larceny-theft" and 12,281 were motor vehicle thefts. The remaining 27,459 were burglaries, which puts the city at the top of the list. So if you live there, lock your doors when you go out at night.

lol even NY had less than Houston, so there goes the size argument.

I believe that works out to about a 1% chance based on those stats. Far from "chances are you will get robbed anyways".

That said, I don't think glass in a front door is a big deal. If someone wants in, they will get in...glass in the front door or not. I think someone already said it, but chances are much greater the back door would be the break-in point, out of view from the street.

I lived in Houston (truly in Houston not the surrounding areas) for 44 years and was never a victim of serious crime or robberies. Not everyone who lives in Houston will be robbed. You must sharpen your senses and always remain mindful of your surroundings in a place like Houston. This is a must if you live in a large US city.

I was thinking the same thing.

True this. According to some posters, we all live in gunfire and fear.

As to someone above that said we had to lock our doors, when we go out at night - unless you live in Mayberry, that's pretty much how it is in any large city.

No matter how you want to nit pick it, Houston has a high burglary rate. I'm sure if you would add the unincorporated areas into the data it would be even higher. Everyone knows how bad the response times are in the unincorporated areas.

It most definitely depends on where. My front door is all glass, but I probably live on the safest block inside the loop. It should not be a deal breaker, but it might require more research for your peace of mind.

That makes no sense at all. I paint a "rosy" picture to sell houses? They are HERE. I doubt they are going to live under the bridge. Their other option is a house. Where exactly did it benefit realtors (or anyone else) to paint that rosy picture?

We have a 1% chance of being a victim of crime? You behave as if that is crime running rampant - and that we are all burglarized and killed on a regular basis. I grew up in a small town that NO LONGER IS ABLE TO LEAVE HOMES UNLOCKED. Welcome to 2013.

I don't know why some on the internet actually enjoy spreading fear and paranoia - but it's unattractive and stupid - and an obvious bid for attention. Get real.

Where is she "painting a rosy picture just to sell houses " ?
This statement is absurd. She has a right to voice her professional opinion.
