Libraries sell books as fundraisers. Most libraries nowadays have ongoing used book sales of donated books. One reason they do not shelve these books is that the bindings are not library bindings and thus they wear out quicker than the books libraries by that are made for library use.

Some libraries have large sales once or twice a year.

Try Charity Guild resale shop or Women's shelter thrift store on Westheimer, both in the Montrose area. Most of the sales go to charity and some items are on consignment. I found some antique books at the Guild in good condition.
