On febuary 28th the Texas Transportation Commission gave the final approval to designation of an additional 28.4 miles of US 59 as part of Interstate 69. The existing section of US 59 from the south side of Rosenberg in Fort Bend County north to Loop 610 in southwest Houston is now part of the Interstate Highway System and will soon be signed as both I-69 and US 59.

Now the only portion left to be renamed in Houston is 59 inside the loop!

Southwest Freeway Now Interstate 69

That's just in the Houston area...Highway 59 all the way to Lufkin will be renamed I-69.

The signs are already in place & the highway has been upgraded to interstate standards. Just saw it a couple of days ago when I took the back route from Tyler to Houston.

I wish it had happened years ago so we'd have a 69 Diner.

Cute

Anyway, 59 south of 610 to me is worse than 290. Worst drivers in the metro, hands down.

I would give that title to the country bumpkins on the Eastex Freeway. Southwest isn't too bad. They move.

@ Metro Matt I know, I was talking about the Houston area specifically. I'm actually curious to see if the Houston metro will surpass the DFW metro in population soon with I-69 coming through and the Panama Canal expansion the city will benefit from.
