Ok, so my husband and I have lived in NY pretty much all of our lives. We moved to VA Beach for 3 years. We had a kid and ended up back in NY. Now 3 years later, we need out. I have a friend from high school who lives in the Houston area. She loves it. We have been looking at Katy, Humble and a few other cities. My husband drives a dump trailer and is also a diesel mechanic. I m a stay at home mom, I have some college and I have extensive restaurnt experience. I am looking to go back to college for nursing. We have a 1 year old nd a 3.5 year old. We would like to buy a house. Where should we be looking? Somewhere with good schools, nd houses in the 2ook or less range. Also a job for my husband. Please help me and guide me in some direction. Your help nd input is GREATLY APPRECIATED!

The Atascocita area near Humble has some good schools especially Eagle Springs Elementary and Summerwood Elementary. You can find some reasonably priced homes in the Atascocita area. The Kingwood campus /Lone Star college is nearby. Atascocita United Methodist church has a great preschool program.

Property taxes are 3% of assessed value. Just keep that in mind.

I live in Atascocita as well, and my daughter attends Atascocita Springs Elementary in Eagle Springs. We love the school and the community. There are several local colleges nearby - Lone Star, San Jacinto, Houston Community College.

Look at www.har.com for homes in the areas you have been looking at. Katy is seriously having a growth spurt and many many people are moving there. I personally prefer the look and feel of the trees in the NE area of town (Humble/Atascocita/Kingwood) vs the prarie look of the west side. But that's just me.

There are also several great preschool programs around the Atascocita area. The 2 most popular seem to be Weekday Learning Center (WLC) at the United Methodist Church, and Creative Learning Center (CLC) at the Atascocita Presbyterian Church. My youngest currently attends CLC and we absolutely LOVE it there. Some others are (as taken off of our Eagle Springs community FB page):

*Creative Learning Center (Atascocita Presbyterian Church), http://www.creativelearningcenter-apc.org/, 281-852-4832 (Currently enrolled registration 2/13, registration open to public 2/27)

*Children's Weekday Ministries "Grow With Me" Day School, (First United Methodist Church in Humble), http://fumc-humble.org/CWM, 281-540-7000 (registration open to public 3/5)

*Weekday Learning Center @ Atascocita United Methodist, www.aumc.org. Open registration is February 21st!

*First Presbyterian Church of Kingwood - Preschool, http://www.fpc-kingwood.org/childrens-programs/preschool/

*Humble Area First Baptist Church

*Atascocita Montessori, 281-852-7738, 18months -6 yrs, Open enrollment, as long as they have classroom space.
