I wouldn't want to drive 60 miles to work. You might want to look at pearland near hwy 288 and 518. Close enough to houston so you won't get bored. Not sure what the mileage to Freeport would be but you can google that. Probably about 50 miles. Moving to Alvin might knock about 10 off but not sure.

If you're going to work in Freeport and want to be close to Houston, Pearland is the place to be. If you're a suburbanite you would enjoy living in Pearland near Hwy 288. Quite a bit of development there in the last 5 years. You have Pearland Town Center, which is basically an outdoor mall and you're about 10-15 minutes from downtown Houston. You're about 30 minutes from Freeport if you drive south on Hwy 288. Pretty much no traffic in that direction for morning and evening commute also.

Pearland to Freeport is to far away about 45 miles. You could live in Lake Jackson and on the weeks drive to Pearland or Glaveston now that would work. Galveston and Pearland are about the same distance away from Lake Jackson

Pearland looks like its even further away from Freeport than League City.

I think pearland is closer plus straight shot on hwy 288 so much less traffic woes.

Relocation to Freeport -- sounds like you're working with Dow.

Many professionals working in the Freeport area do commute from the Pearland area or communities on Highway 6 west of Highway 288 (Lake Olympia, Sienna Plantation, etc.) There are carpools from many of these areas. If that is too far for you, then Lake Jackson is the next best option but it is definitely a "company town" and maybe not the best choice for 2 younger adults with no children.

I wouldn't live in Freeport. It's older and industrial. The consumer development is in Lake Jackson where there are lots of restaurants, shopping centers, bars, etc. It's about 1:15 drive to center of Houston most times so if you're just looking to hit Houston a few times a week for social outings then not too bad. One thing about Texas is you get used to lots of driving. Even if you live in Houston you'd probably be driving an hour to go a lot of places.

Dow Chemical Corporation has a very large complex down there. Many/most people who live in Lake Jackson work there.

It's not that bad... I know a lot of people who like Surfside Beach. A fairly typical Texas beach, none of which are really different until you get down close to Mexico (where they get nicer).
Uh...no, it's horrible.
