Is this legal?

We witnessed a teenage girl at the Lumen lounge mixing music at the DJ table for at least 2 hrs.

The girl seem to be very young, around 14-year old. The time was between midnight and 2 am yesterday, Dec 15. She was standing at the table alone mixing music for at least 3 hours. Before she came up, there were 2 adult Asian DJs.

The girl was doing a great DJ work and it looked unusual. But, personally, the scene of a young teenage girl late at night, in an adult environment and in an premise selling alcohol looked very disturbing.

The club claimed she was 19. I do not believe them. I did not see any parents nearby. There were a lot of people (I counted 10+) filming and taking pictures of her. So you may probably find more footage soon on youtube, etc.

Default Child entertainment laws

U.S. Department of Labor - Wage & Hour Divisions (WHD) - Child Entertainment Laws As of January 1, 2008

Texas:

"Minors under 14 need to submit application for authorization signed by agency and parent, proof of age and a photograph. 13-5(H)-902 & 904. Contracts limited to no more than 7 years. Courts may require a portion of earnings be set aside for the minor in a trust."

So if the child is 14 or older, the law does not even apply.

The laws vary by state. See the table.

I highly doubt that the club would just let a 14 year old girl spin without parental consent. The girl obviously has talent and this is not a regular thing for her.

If it was then it would be odd for a club to promote that but most likely it's the daughter of a DJ or one or the owners.

What is the point of this thread? OP, you sound a bit puritan. I mean my God the level of home spun family value morality in Houston is unfit for a major city. If the girl is being forced or if there are any laws being broken about hiring minors I can understand and would gladly admit to being wrong, but it just doesn't seem like a club in Upper Kirby would be this negligent.

What I am more interested in is this Lumen Lounge place. Is it new? What's the scene like? Can anyone that's been there tell me about it?

Tween DJ Elle Morgan spins a promising career | Houston Music | 29-95.com

looks like a parent is there with her at every show

she is booked into multiple clubs that are well known and would not risk their license just to have her "because"

I am sure kids work at Chuck E. Cheese where they cater to kids, sell beer, and parents often make asses of themselves

grocery stores sell beer and kids are sackers at grocery stores even having to *gasp* touch the beer to put it in the bag

I am positive she is exposed to much worse (or could be if she wanted to be) throughout the daily life of being a 12yo

Wow. Amazing talent. I knew it had to something like this. I hope she keeps spinning.

there are touring bands where the major players are under the age of 17. you can't not give them a venue simply because they are minors. typically the places i have been to won't allow them to buy drinks or people to buy drinks for them

Yeah. Doesn't that happen all the time at Fitzgeralds?

That right arm waving in the air is a repetitive stress injury waiting to happen. She's good though.
