you misunderstood, we're in agreement american whites/blacks/hispanics is outnumbered by foreigners(1st gen immigrants maybe) mostly from asia and euroasia. in my experience americans in IT concentrate in QA, control, customer service, desktop support and infrastructure and maybe web/graphical applications. very few make it or want to be in software development where most people are educated and have earned experience abroad. management gets the typical american status keeper of course

Post Possible relocation to clear lake--need help

Hi--I'm new to this forum and a quick google search led me here because of my keywords. My husband wants to move to Clear Lake but I'm a bit nervous about the relocation there. I'm from Houston and grew up on the east side until I went away to college on the east coast, vowing I'd never live in Texas again. We're living in the San Francisco area now with our son but we have no family here and my husband thinks it's important for our son to get to know his grandparents, cousins, and aunts/uncles, etc. He suggested Clear Lake because he wants to buy a sailboat and get a waterfront property (wants to be able to sail into the ocean.) I'm wary because I am black/Japanese and he's Cuban American and I have gotten quite comfortable to being in a very diverse area here in California and get uneasy when I think back to how I grew up with everyone staring all the time or making ignorant comments about our multiracial family (we still get that when we go to restaurants when we visit H-town).

I wouldn't mind the move if I could get some info on more progressive or at least open-minded waterfront neighborhoods. I don't know Clear Lake well. Do they exist there? We don't mind "salty dog" edgier towns and don't want to be enclosed in a gated community. We do want friendly though but not in your business all the time kind of communities. I just want my son to see Asian, Black, and Latino people in positions of power (as is the case here) and live in a neighborhood where he can go to a school that is very mixed (as is the case here too). Any neighborhood ideas would be very much appreciated!
