It seems hard to get good houses in Meyerland as they go fast...There are some mid century modern ranches that become available from time to time.. We wonder if this style is still popular or not. Also in couple of decades, will they look even more strange/uncommon to newer generation. What would be some of the negatives of these vs. newer two story for young family.

We see some like:

5111 Paisley, Houston, TX 77096 - HAR.com (This is near Kolter)

5654 Lymbar Dr, Houston, TX 77096 - HAR.com

These ranches seem expensive though...

Any comments?

That Lymbar house USED to be a mid-century ranch. Now it's... ? Texas Hill Country in Houston? I don't even know. I watched the renovation happen with amusement. I guess it's going to appeal to some, but I would say it's overpriced for the neighborhood, where most houses of that size go for more like 300,000. You're still zoned to Westbury High.

The Paisley house makes a bit more sense for the money, since it's zoned to Bellaire HS. Still a bit pricey.

As for the style of both, to each his own. If you have something so particular in style, there will always be people who won't like it, and people who will, when it comes to resale. But I guess what matters is if YOU like it since you'd be living in it.

If you're concerned about price, I would keep looking. There are better deals in the neighborhood.

If we hadn't found our dream house in Meyerland, we would have done the same.

Those mid century homes looked great then, and they still look fresh today. Must be the bone structure :-D
Both of those homes look good. I'm in Meyerland, and zoned to Bellaire HS, not Westbury HS.

What we are finding is that houses zoned to Kolter elementary and Bellaire high are hard to come by (especially if they have not been flooded) and this is driving the price up there....Some houses we saw online were gone before we even got to see them. Again 4 bed room older houses are rare...

We like the area zoned to Herod as well. Just trying to stay in older neighborhoods in a ranch style home seems to be difficult. Oh..not to mention pool. Most bigger ranches seem to have a pool which we are trying to avoid. In the end we may choose to just buy a house with a pool and close it.

So it sounds like no one here is scared of the thought of an architecturally particular/different house.

How about houses zoned to Parker? Parker is a good school, and will have a brand new school thanks to the bond that just passed. Should improve property values in the long run. I've seen several houses in Maplewood South for sale lately. Plus you'd be zoned to Johnson/Pin Oak Middle (I think with Herod you can be zoned to Fondren Middle. That's what I've heard, always good to check).

Most houses zoned to Parker are 3 bedroom and around 2000-2300 sq ft. We like that area, but can't find something that is a bit larger (2700-3000 sq ft) and 4 bedroom. We hate to move again so trying to buy a bigger house in a good school district (both elementary and high..).

Paisley st house that I mentioned in first post is a bit too big (3500 sq ft) but looks interesting and in a great location. We are trying to decide if we should compromise for a smaller house or a bigger house than we need. I hear flood insurance can be around 2500 $ /yr.

The Lymbar home is really nice, but really is no longer a mod home unfortunately. It's contemporary with the bones of a mod layout..still nice though. Funny how every inch of the interior has been smothered with Restoration Hardware....must of cost a pretty penny!

I think some magnificent homes similar in style can be found for half that amount in Glenbrook Valley.
