Just heard on CNBC that over the last 10 years, 500k people from CA have moved to TX. That's 50k a year just from one state! That's enough people to populate the Woodlands 5 times over! Am I the only person that finds this statistic shocking?

I'm not the least bit shocked. I'm actually surprised there weren't more. Why? Terribly high cost of living for the average middle class guy. About 10 years ago, I knew a guy who said that in the LA area where his job was, a basic house of 300,000 was still in a bad area with drug dealers on the street.
A lady I knew was offered a job transfer from Texas to Calif. Not much pay increase. She said to maintain the same standard of living in Ca. vs. Tex. she would have to make 55% more income just to break even. Texas has affordable living, many very low crime cities with affordable housing, and plenty of jobs.

At first glance it is amazing, but not given the advanced state of decay California is in fiscally and in terms of regulations on businesses.

same influx of CA went into CO years before the recession which lead to their boom. it mostly evened out. will happen the same way here

the people that are leaving CA are doing it for personal reasons and for a lot it appears mostly financial. we are getting the middle class/lower class CA looking for work. TX is a middle class/low class state. does not bode well for future

I am not the least bit happy about it. Maybe with Colorado's new law, they'll choose to go there now instead.

You also have to factor in the amount of people moving from Texas to California. In 2010, 72,000 people moved from California to Texas however 51,000 moved from Texas to California. So the net gain was only about 21,000.

Huh? This makes no sense. First of all, I WANT TX to be a middle class state. All I hear about is this great divide between the rich and the poor and now you are complaining about the middle?????? LOL.

Second, you need to correct yourself. TX is importing a lot of people from the east coast from wall street to work in energy. Everyone I use to know on wall street is asking me how to get into energy in Houston. Recruiters tell me there is a serious brain shortage in TX. They have to woo the east coast guys to move to Texas to work in commodities and energy. And these are most certainly NOT low class jobs. And ever heard of the Texas Medical Center? You know the largest concentration of medical professionals in the world? Yeah...that one. OK good. Because Houston is importing plenty of medical professionals from all over the world to work there.

So yeah, great thesis there with your low class job people. And for the record, since when did liberals look down on the poor? I must have missed that speech at the DNC convention last fall.
