Would like to surprise the husband with a garage makeover for Christmas . . . install some cabinets, work bench, storage shelves. Any personal recommendations on who to use in the Richmond/Katy/West Houston area? Any ideas about what kind of budget I am looking at? Also, have these Blues Brothers that need refinishing . . . any ideas on who I would contact for that? Thanks! Here are some pics:

I'll critique:

I would ditch the box.
I would look at getting a storage rack for the plastic containers.
Get some pictures framed up on the wall.
Put that freakin' awesome Blues brother statue right in between where the dressers are.

I would be interested in doing the same - although your before photos look good to me! I would like to have ours even that organized! We had a basement where we used to live, so all of that (junk) is in our garage

I have seen this truck/company in our neighborhood, I haven't spoken to anyone that has used them

Love the Blues Brothes statue!

good luck!!!

I have the bigger than life Blues Brothers seated. They have been outside for 12 years. All day, every day, sun, rain, hot, cold. Just sand a little and paint with craft acrylic paint. If the fiberglass has cracked, just put in a good caulk or filler. Roa's bakery has them outside but covered. They looked just like mine at first, but they either varnished or waxed them. Sometimes they looked like the have chicken pox from mildew. I just clean them with bathroom cleaner with bleach.

Another place that has a pretty good garage system is the Container Store. They have some really nice customizable storage garage systems and they also will do a free design for you, based on your needs and garage dimensions. I'm on the fence between them and the Monkey Bars guys. Saving up for this early next year...I'm so tired of seeing cardboard boxes and tools leaning against the walls of my garage.

If you go with Container store wait for a sale. Those Elfa's go on sale a couple of times a year, 30% off. He might enjoy going by the plan they create for you. Just take your measurements, tell them what you want, make your selections and leave with a diagram and a shopping list. They will get it all together and load your car. The Elfa systems go together very easily, kinda like erector set or Lego's. They will also come out and do it all.

I second the Container Store and their Elfa system. A bit expensive, but SOOOO worth it (totally wait for the sale - they will probably have another one in January). I did my daughter's closet and redid my pantry with them this past year. I'm wanting to redo my garage as well. It's very configurable and you can change it up to meet your needs over time - which you can't really do with a cabinet system.

It's not a garage - but here's my before and after of my pantry with the Elfa system. LOVE it.

Builder grade pantry before - it was dark (even though there was a super high gloss white on the walls), stuff got lost, couldn't see things easily:

Elfa system pantry after - we broke down the shelves and repainted yellow, installed a light (this pic was taken before we installed a new light), put things in clear containers so we can see how much of stuff we have left, and put additional racks:

But Elfa systems are perfect because you can configure it to your needs, and if those needs change over time, it's super easy to add or change up the shelving and storage you already have.
