Curious as to anybody's opinion on this neighborhood. My wife and I are looking at a home here that has been updated and looks great, however, we simply don't know much about the area because until recently our search has been focused on other parts of Houston. Curious if anybody can talk about the community feel, way the neighborhood is headed, etc. We were looking over in Meyerland and this area seems considerably cheaper so just are wondering why. We know the schools aren't as good but other than resale that doens't bother us too much because we are going to be sending our child to private school to start wtih. I don't see us living in the house more than 5-7 years so the junior high and high school don't matter too much to us. The area I am talking about is that around St. Thomas More Catholic Church.

Thanks,

We lived there some years back and loved it. We almost went back about 4 years ago. Things get iffy past Hillcroft due to the apartments on Fondren and apartments south of there.

Really inspect the house. The inspector we had saw all kinds of long term roof leaks and damaged wood. When he and DH were in the garage he told DH to pass on this particular house. Rehabbers bought it, did good cosmetics, but did nothing to replace the bad siding or the garage and driveway that could not drain.

We love this neighborhood. If you search the forum you'll see my posts crowing about how it's the best thing since sliced bread.

Prices are lower mainly because of the high school (Westbury). If you can get zoned to Parker Elementary, you're in good shape for schools through middle school (Parker + Johnston, both exemplary). Neighborhood (west of Hillcroft especially) has never had problems, always been solid. It's mixed between original residents (the nice oldies you see walking around the neighborhood and still! doing their own lawn care) and new young families.

Plus, the neighborhood pool is a super fun place to hang out in the summer. Can't lose!
