Can someone give me some insight to IT job market in Houston. I've posted my resume on Monster and careerbuilder about two weeks now, and I've only gotten about 3 phone calls. Compare to the amount of calls I now receive in the D.C area (approx 5 calls a day). Are there many jobs to choose from. This is one factor I will take into consideration before moving. I need to be able to find another job, if one does not work out. Finally, my line of work is network engineering.

Thanks.

Forget Monster, use a headhunter
Robert Half Technology is strong in the Houston area.

You have to use the Monster the right way. Update or login to your resume every day that way it bumps it to the top of the list.

IT market is pretty strong however I do think that if you're trying to get a job from the DC area that could make it tough. Alot of companies want locals.

It also depends what your focus is in IT. I've been traveling as a consultant for the last 7 years because I've found that working in IT in Houston is not as lucrative as it is in other cities. I'd probably have to take a 30%-50% pay cut to find a local job.

Then again, with the recent energy boom, the market could be different, and I've found that employers will usually pay well if you have a proven track record. Good luck in your search.
