KUDOS to the Texans and Operation Family Home!

Quote:
Marine Scott Wood died four weeks ago after suffering injuries during combat in Iraq. Before his burial, his wife dressed him in two uniforms. On the outside, Scott wore his military dress blues. Underneath, he wore the blue No. 80 jersey of Houston Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson

The team told Sara she and Landon would be receiving a custom-built, mortgage-free house in a Houston suburb. It's courtesy Operation Finally Home, an organization that builds houses for wounded and disabled veterans or their widowed families. In its seven years of existence, the charity has built 32 homes in 32 states, all mortgage free.

Full article here. I apologize if someone has posted this before.

That's great,
I just wish all veterans were helped.
It's nice to see a few of them getting helped this way, but we can't forget about the 1000s that are homeless.

This group has done this 32 times. Kudo's to them. It is sad there are so many more available for this accolade . I'd rather us end the war and protect them from unneeded harm.

My point is that I rather see 1000s of them get free training, a scholarship (free food and transportation while they are training) and then get a decent job....
than a handfull of them get a house, everybody is all cheering and happy while 1000s of them are in a corner down the street begging for a can a soup.

Sorry if it sounds like a rant,
but I just hate publicity stunts that do nothing to solve real problems.

It solved a real problem for the handful that it did help. Who cares if it was a publicity stunt. Some good came out of it.

By all means go volunteer at a local shelter. Money isn't the only way to help out.
