I've seen a central air unit replaced inside of 2 hours, but have heard stories about people being charged for 6 hours of labor.

I''ve only had the outside unit replaced but it took a while because the system had to be totally flushed exceptionally well due to different types of freon.

i've had a total HVAC replacement (all units, ductwork insulation, and installaton) and it took them less than 8 hours. if they are charging you for 6 hours of labor tell them no

yeah i was amazed how fast they did it. id had original metal ducts (but not in good shape). seeing them pull everything out of the tiny attic entrance was crazy. the fact all the men did it without cursing at each other and in general having a sense of humour about them was another

Cheaper in the winter.. I wonder why?? :/

Anyway, keep the old original ducts if you can, just clean them. The new flexible ones are crapposita.

flexible ducts come with pretty high efficiency ratings now. old metal ducts can be in really bad shape and installed improperly. new fancy metal ducts are definitely awesome but are prohibitively expensive for most people (and not economically efficient if you ever plan on moving)

the thing is flexible ducts can easily be installed improperly. you need to know what to look for

You can also ask for a quote by the project rather how many hours they spend. To me what's important if the job is done right and not how many hours they need. They can do a crap job in 6 hours for what I know or care.

We had both units replaced. Heat air everything. Three guys were here 6 or 7 hours.

We had the entire A/C unit replaced (not ducts) and it was about 7 hours and 2 guys. Granted, we had a TINY crawl space to install the interior portion so that added some time to it.

They did a great job.
