The Fort Bend Star had a page on the back today listing a comparison of the HOA dues in the area. This looks like it was written by Quail Valley Country Club so you might want to verify the numbers if you're seriously thinking about one of these neighborhoods.

Avalon $800
Brightwater $575
Commonwealth $675
First Colony $641
Greatwood $580
Lake Olympia $500
New Territory $918
Quail Valley $374
River Park $746
Riverstone $725
Sienna Plantation $795

FYI, this was part of a commentary on proposed development plans for golf courses in Missouri City and Quail Valley in particular. If that interests you check out the Fort Bend Star for more info.

I just bought a house in New Territory, and the HOA dues are supposed to be $870. The table is probably fairly close, though not exact.

Home Owner's Association fees. Each year the HOA will charge homeowner's in their area a fee for keeping up the swimming pools, landscaping, tennis courts, playgrounds, etc.

Default HOA's a pain

Home Owner Associations are also organization that have dirtbag lawyers that that kick elderly people out of their homes when younger buyers want to move in.

HOAs are the closest thing to zoning Houston has.

Avoid them like AIDS!!!!!

Contact your HOA - posting a work request on this forum won't help you.

HOA = Nazies. The primary reason I moved out of First Colony.

HOA is a horrible organization designed to add to their bottom lines and not represent the home owners. In First Colony they're trying to close 6 out of 11 pools and spend about 11 Million.. See for yourself firstcolonysaveourpoolsandparks

Homeowner's organizations are authorized by the deed restrictions to the home that you purchase. When the home lot was severed by deed from the developer's large tract, that deed included restrictions as to what could or could not be done with the property. It is the way people protect property rights in the absense of government. The alternative is having a government like the city of Houston tax you to pay for something not even in your neighborhood.

If you don't like the HOA in your area, get involved and learn the rules and try to do what you want. Generally, if enough homeowners are upset about something, they can get enough people to make changes.
