I'm trying to figure out where to start looking for a karate or tae kwon do class for my 8-year-old. Any recommendations in the SL area? Thanks!!

Leonardo Xavier is outstanding for Jiu Jitsu, but that probably doesn't help you out.

For that age, GKR Karate offers karate classes at Lifetime Fitness on Tuesday and Thursday at 6:30 pm and Saturday at 10 am. You have to be a Lifetime member but the benefit of that is that you can use the club while your 8 year old learns karate. Cost is something like $100 per month for the karate.

We also explored Safety America but they require a one year commitment and I didn't want that.

Any idea what a lifetime membership costs? Is it worth it?

I only know what it costs for two adults and two children: #130/month.

Whether it is worth it or not depends on what you value.

Check out Houston Kid Stuff - Welcome to HoustonKidStuff.com. They have directories for different areas of the city. I found some good info on activities in my part of town.
