Anyone have any opinions on Thornwood? Seems to offer the same type of homes as Nottingham and Westchester. Kinda worried about crime and curious if its experiencing appreciation like those areas. Any thoughts?

One side of Thornowood is zoned to Katy ISD and the other is zoned to Spring Branch. The Katy side I think is nicer because it backs to Terry Hershey Park whereas the Spring Branch side is sandwiched between older townhomes, a cemetary and some apartments, but I don't think either area has a great deal of crime (im sure theres some automotive and home burgelery, but i haven't heard of any violent crime recently. I have friend that lives in the spring branch side and enjoys it.

Butr because they're not as insulated or prestigious as the other neighborhoods (developed by kickarillo) the appreciation never has been as steep, but that doesn't make the area bad.

My 2 cents - we live in Nottingham Forest now and plan to buy here or further east. If we went further west we'd likely choose a spot or two in Green Trails or Kelliwood Nottingham Country. Get the nice feel of an established neighborhood plus great schools all at Thornwood prices. You give up some convenience but you avoid any issues, real or perceived, related to Thornwood. I don't think the commute would be that much worse.

I would try to get into the neighborhoods zoned to SB if possible but Thornwood is a very nice neighborhood. I wouldnt give a minute worrying about crime.

I agree with trying to get SBISD zoning. Just is less of a worry when it comes to kids driving themselves to HS, and having to deal with rush hour trying to get to Katy. Stratford is highly, nationally rated.

As to the park, yes the ones that go to KISD back up to it, but once you cross Memorial from the SBISD side, there are several ways to get to the park. Best thing is the new library that you can bike to.Worst thing is the back up Eldridge traffic. The cemetery wouldn't bother me, the neighbors are quiet and the open space helps with the breeze.

Property values have been affected greatly in the positive when backing up to THP, with the exception of homes zoned to KISD. Most people want SBISD on this side of George Bush Park/Addicks dam. I wouldn't be surprised if a connection along Eldridge is built in the future. The park system currently connecting Walnut Bend, so I think it's only a matter of time.

EDIT: Seems that plan is already in the works. from TerryHersheyPark.org

Work will begin soon on an extension of this trail that will take it under I-10, north to the top of the Addicks Dam where it will branch. There will be a branch to the east to Eldridge Parkway and a branch to the west connecting with Metro's Addicks Park and Ride Lot.

This will make it possible for people to travel by bicycle from the neighborhoods around Wilcrest, Kirkwood, and Dairy Ashford to the park and ride lot, or to jobs in the oil company offices around Eldridge Parkway, if they choose to.
