We have a huge collection of VHS tapes we would like to get rid of. Some of them are purchased movies which we plan to sell to Half Price Books (if they still take them), but the rest are just tapes of shows from televisions. We called Westside Recycling Center and they won't take the tapes. Does anyone have any idea of what to do with them? We really hate the idea of just throwing them away; would prefer if we could find a place to recyle them or if there is a charity that might still have use for them. Thanks for your help.

Goodwill, Salvation Army or other thrift stores. Sometimes you can sell old tapes on Amazon.

Donate. Places like Nursing Homes, Assisted Living, Boarding Homes and shelters would appreciate them very much!!

You should maybe inventory the TV shows. There are collectors out there across the web that would love to buy them. Especially if the TV shows are old enough. The rarer, the more sought after. If they have the commercials, that's even more special, believe it or not.

Thanks! I'll call Salvation Army etc to find out if they will take them; I just assumed that since the technology was so dated they weren't looking for tapes anymore.

And interesting tips re the television shows -- I have a bunch of X-Files, various incarnations of Star Trek, JAG etc, episodes taped from television; had no idea anyone would still be interested in them (and if you are, PM me -- they are yours!).
