I thought thats what people who live in the city wanted, for developers to build developments so people could walk everywhere. If I could afford it I would probably live there.

Its a joke. There's a bunch of arguments about creating walkable neighborhoods, but then people try and drive because walking in Houston is hot, then complain about traffic, then roads get widened, retail pushed away and destroy walkable neighborhoods. Its a cycle.

For a lot of Houstonians, the idea of walking in their "walkable neighborhood" is very much like the idea cooking in their in-home "professional kitchen": They really like to imagine themselves doing it, but when it comes to the reality of actually doing it on a regular basis, well, not so much.

Both concepts look nice, the ideas sound wonderful and if you can afford it, they're like nice trophies you can show off but which you never really use.

That's true, but I think those apartments would be perfect for that area. Almost everything you need would be in walking distance. Sherlocks, Retail stores, grocery store, River Oaks movie theather, Barnes and Nobles, Tj Maxx, Marshalls, restaurants. You could walk around and act like you live in New York

So it's hot, and they get in the car, then park and end up in the middle of a gigantic, baking slab of asphalt only to walk a few hundred feet to their destination over there anyway.
