We are moving to Houston with a multi-generational family (grandma, hubby & me, kids). I need to find various doctors for all of us. Does Houston have a magazine or other resource that publishes a fairly objective list of the best doctors in the area by specialty? In our current hometown a local magazine publishes such a list in which doctors are nominated by their peers. If not, I'd appreciate any suggestion on how to find great doctors. Thanks!

I've been told by friends in the business that all those list of best doctors, even so called "as nominated by peers" are marketing gimmicks. If I remember correctly, I think the doc receives a congratulatory letter from the magazine which tells them they've been nominated by their local peers as a best doc. I think the doc can also nominate themself as "best doc". They have to pay a membership fee or some bogus fee to be published. Unless it is an award by their professional association (ie, American Association of ______), it's probably bogus. Usually though, the professional association only gives awards for service or research, they usually won't say one of their members is "better" than another.
