Niko Niko's, BB's, Baba Yega, and Baby Barnaby's are all pretty good, too (as is Ruggle's and the Breakfast Klub, or so I'm told).

Breakfast Klub is in midtown I believe.

It seems the areas around the intersection Westheimer and Montrose has become the emerging center of gastronomy in Houston.

True, Breakfast Klub is technically midtown, but just a few minutes away from Montrose. Churrasco's is good, too.

chances will be turned into a new hit restaurant (hopefully) as well as the old holly wood video/movie theater complex across the street. its already been renovated inside. Catalan unfortunately will be losing their chef but he'll just be moving down to Westheimer. i cant complain

I think the Heights is a great place to live especially if moving with family. I agree with Kixette, a single person would probably enjoy Montrose better but you just have to really think of what you're wanting in the end.

Are you serious? MOntrose is the gastronomic center of Houston? Why? Because of some typical trendy sushi places? One mediocre Mediterranean restaurant? Burgers? Fries?

I'm sorry but you don't know Houston if you think Montrose is the center of the dining scene in Houston. SW area (Bellaire, Hillcroft) EASILY is the center, with its enormous range of different cuisines. Not only do you have the typical American stuff but there is also a wide array of cuisines like Indian, Pakistani, Bengali, Chinese, Vietnamese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Malaysian, Singaporean, Taiwanese, Lebanese/Arabic, Turkish, many different types of African, Guatemalan, Honduran, Salvadorean, Mexican, Nicaraguan, etc etc.
Montrose...HA!

Yes, and have you tried any of the restaurants I'm talking about? Do you know just how many there are in that area? I'm guessing not.

I don't know about you, but to me, a "gastronomic center" has a wide range of eclectic restaurants, eateries, and food markets with many things to try, not just a couple of trendy restaurants that are cost more because they have mood lighting and a leather couch in the front. The SW area is the food center of Houston because of it's very vast amount of restaurants spanning a very vast array of different types of cuisine with many great, great restaurants, many in very unexpected places.

You are the type of person who thinks that a restaurant can only be good if it plays House music and has sexy furniture and lighting and an overpriced menu to pay for mediocre food. I go to restaurants to eat, not to be pampered by an annoying waiter and not as a reason to get dressed and go out on a Friday night, so the only things that matter are the food and the price of the food relative to its quality.

Look up the definition of "gastronomy" and you will not see the word variety anywhere there, in fact, gastronomy sometimes pertains to a certain region, state or province. Then come back to me. Thaaaaanks.
