Here is an update on bidding:
Out of 7 provided estimates, so far the following contractors have given better prices for similar quality:

- West East Construction
- Eagle Patio Covers
- Stonecraft Builders
- Texas Construction Plus

I also like the better safety/quality practices of Affordable Shade Patio Covers, but they are $3000 over the price of others.

If anyone of you is in rush to do their patio cover, feel free to use my results: ask for a quote from any of these better 4. This will save you some time (and money).

I will update on winner later.

Quick update on my patio project:
15x30ft stamped concrete slab is installed yesterday. The framing will begin tomorrow.

So far I am super happy with my contractor. He knows what he is doing. And he gave me a price 40% (!!!) less than 5 more companies I have bids from. Ain't that tells you what fat overhead prominent contractors put in their pocket? I am glad I did not overpay that much.

If anyone of you is planning to do a covered patio (or trellis, gazebo, etc.) - feel free to PM me. I will give you my contractors info. You are gonna like his prices (and quality too).

Follow-up on a bug and sun screen shades: I decided to go with motorized roll-away shades, just like these on a picture. They are on rails and completely enclosed from insects, etc.

Out of 5-6 bids in the 8-12K range for appr. 3 pcs of 10H x 15W motorized screens, one firm offered 3 screens for around 4.5K. I went to their job site to check the quality, etc. The screens are really good, they use Somfy 1.5HP motors, the rails are 2in aluminum, can be completely hidden in the column. So I am happy with the materials/practices they use.

PM me if anyone wants to check with them. I will later publish pictures of the job they will do.

Nice..keep us updated. I was very happy with Eagle Patio Covers. You spent a lot more time than I did, I only got 4 quotes. I wanted to spent a little more time but I wanted the patio ready for a family event.

Hope yours turns out how you want it!

Thanks for the lead to Eagles you gave me a month ago. They were my favorite to the last moment. In fact, they are in the top 3 from 7 estimates I have received. Their initial quote for 15x16ft patio was 10K, the highest was 15K. I have chosen a contractor that quoted 8K (actually, 6K with upgrades).

Thanks. I will start posting them shortly.

Compared to other customers working away from the house all day, I can be at the site all day watching the progress. Because most people can't do that, they can't see some things that can be corrected right away.

Make sure you don't cover your brick wall weep holes... Ask me how I know Also make sure that the deck is not higher than the weep holes so water will be getting in..

Thanks. Confirm that we are talking about the same holes (below). If they are the weep holes, the slab is below them. So I hope they are safe.
