I was honestly told, very recently, that "Houston is a dying city..." and the example given to me was of a large Oil major, I think Schlumberger who is shifting their base to the Middle East?
They might have been talking about Haliburton, which is moving its HQ to Dubai. However, from what I understand, they're still retaining just about all of their employee base here. Mostly just the executives are moving over there.

Halliburton also spun off KBR which still exists and is based in Houston near the port.

Hi,

Yes, I think they were talking about Haliburton, my mistake.

Thanks,
Andy

Yea your getting incorrect info, Last year Houston metro gained more people than any other city in the country, and almost every year Houston is either 1 or 2 in numerical growth in jobs. Houston is diversifying which is good.

Many people said the oil companies will move because Bush will step down at the end of the year. He can't support anymore for these companies and provide any benefit for them, in term of tax. But, I think this is not tru since the oil price is jumping high.

That isn't true. These oil and energy companies won't move because Bush is stepping down. You know, the Energy industry only accounts for about 45% of Houston's economy now.

Hi friends,

Thanks for the replies. I shared the same concern re: companies exiting post President Bush.

Is this a real concern?

On a side note, does anyone know the average flying time from Houston to San Fransisco, Los Angeles and Orlando, Florida? (I have friends in these places but they have never been to Houston, so would like to visit)

Thanks a lot,
Andy
