It sounds like you possibly got punked.
It worked fine in that I had the bike for years (kind of old) and no issues, never had to even look at the title and now I can't get it on the road because the rules here are totally different.

If it's an FJ1300, I'll give you 50 bucks for it Cash!
Did you mean FJR 1300? My partner just bought one and wow it is a nice bike! He had wanted one for over a year and just bought a new 2009 FJR1300 and it is a stealth machine! I am too small for it but if I were bigger I would love to have one like it! It is very heavy!!

The bank should have notified NYS when the lien was satisfied.

I was born and raised in NYS. My husbands car was bought with a loan, and we paid the loan off in 18 months. I had the original title that showed our credit union had a lien on it, and then then 18 months later, my credit union notified NYS that the loan was satisfied and also mailed me a lien release (in both my maiden and married names since I had changed my name during the life of the loan). A few weeks later, I received an official lien release from NYS as well. When I went to register the car down here, I had to present both the title, the matching lien release from NYS (which was the one in my married name), the original bill of sale from the dealership as well as a copy of my marriage certificate since the bill of sale was in my maiden name.

I had no issues registering the car at all, but I also had everything with me I could possibly need to prove I owned the car and that Anne AXXXXX who bought the car was now Anne BXXXXXX, and that I had paid the car off.

It sounds like the ball got dropped somewhere in NYS and I'd contact them and request a duplicate title to see if the lien is still on there. If not, then it's time to pursue the lien holder and find out why it hasn't been released.

I would think that you would not be responsible for the loan since you were not the one who took out the loan. It sounds like the person you bought the bike from never paid off the bank, but yet, why is the title still showing there lien on your bike? Someone somewhere dropped the ball.

If the lien is indeed valid, you don't actually own the bike.
