We recently bought a home and the backyard is quite small, with a pool taking up most of it. THere is a square patch about 11' x 11', however, with nice grass.

The front of the house has a large, lovely lawn.

We want more outdoor living space - a porch cover and summer kitchen. This will eliminate that patch of grass. It will be done well, professionally and with high grade materials and appliances.

Will we be impacting the resale value of the home with no grass in the back yard? I'm from Vegas and rarely did we have grass in the backyards - mostly outdoor living space.

I can almost imagine what the backyard looks like now. I must have a vivid imagination.

Since you have lived in Vegas, let me put it this way - a summer kitchen and covered porch (Full House) beats out a 11' X 11' patch of grass" for a swingset (2 Pair) every time. Even if the later couple has children, hubby will salivate until wife gives in, especially once she sees the bathroom.

You should be fine as long as your upgrades go with the home. You might even add some value to it, but don't necessarily expect $ for $.

A nice outdoor living space is definitely better than a small patch of grass.
