I have a Whirlpool dryer that is about 14 years old. About 2 months ago the thermal cutoff was blown so I replaced it and the lower one.

Well it just blew again but this time it was very obvious, the whole piece was melted and the plastic casing on the wires were bubbled and charred.

What would cause this to happen? I can replace the wires and put in a new cutoff but am now scared that I have a real fire hazard on my hands.

I do not want to by a new dryer because a $20 part needs replaced but I also don't want to burn down my house.

thanks for any advise!!!!!

Make sure there are no obstructions all the way to daylight...

Sounds like lint blockage or a kink somewhere...

I agree and make sure it's moving a lot of air and that flapper is opening. Assuming this is an electric model you may have another thermostat allowing heat to stay on too long.
