Hi, I have a 1200 square foot basement that is completely sub-terranean. It was re-finished by a previous owner, nicely, but not necessarily optimally albeit somewhat recently (i.e. that drop ceiling with fluorescent lights, paneling).
Right now I had to take out the carpeting (pets) and underneath I found some linoleum that is not usable (doesn't look good, stained), but in good condition to use as a base.
What would be the best flooring that would be the least expensive to use down there, considering moisture issues? I'm considering tile, laminate hardwood, or just a nice looking linoleum.
Floating sheet vinyl. (By floating I mean NOT glued down.) That way you can easily remove it if needed. A long time ago, there used to be linoleum "rugs" that served a similar purpose.
I'd have to have carpeting. Brrrrrrrr. But if your pets don't behave themselves, then you can toss some thick area rugs over the vinyl to give your tootsies some warmth.
And get a dehumidifier, if you don't have one already. That will take care of most of the moisture.
