I finally decided to rip up the carpet in my basement and tile the floor.

I've become very fond of a particular dark tile, but there are no windows down there. I'm wondering if anyone knows if it really matters whether you use dark tile or light tile on the floor of a dark place?

this is the tile.

Porcelain, Ergon, Mikado Ebano, Buytile.com

It's really a gorgeous tile and I'm going to use 12" x 24" on the floor because I think that will be interesting and contemporary.

Any advice would be great,

Thanks

Leah

Default Going to depend a lot on your lighting.

If you have a lot of lighting down lower in the room should not notice it as much. You can over power about any situation with bright enough lights. Most basements do not have enough natural sunlight via windows anyway. Kick up the wattage of lights as part of the upgrade. Put more in various locations.

All depends on what turns you on and how you want to decorate.

We and the government don't get to tell you what to do, not quite yet. Might be coming in the future.

Dark tile, like dark paint on walls, is going to darken the room.

If I were you, and decided to go with the dark tile, I'd be sure to have light-colored walls.

You'll want to make sure you have plenty of lighting. You can always turn the lights down or off.

If you like the tile, do it. It's in the basement and not everyone who comes into your house will see it. You will see it and if it makes you happy do it.
Make sure about the surface is not slippery. The sample does not say what the surface is, smooth or textured. That's always a consideration. Even a little bit of water makes for a very slippery tile.
