We've lost the garage door opener thingy, you know the one you keep in the car and need to replace it. The actual motor that opens the door is fine. Is it difficult to program a new opener? Or expensive?
Figure out what brand of opener you have, very likely you can get either an original or "universal" remote that will work. Sears or Home Depot should have what you need, it should come with instructions on how to program it, I have programmed Sears remotes, it's pretty simple althugh I don't remember off the top of my head how exactly to do it.
Another thought, many cars come with "homelink"(or similar branding) programmable garage door openers in the visor. I'm assuming you don't have one since you had a separate transmitter, but I thought it might not hurt to ask. That would be a much more convenient and free option of your car is so equipped.
If you aren't sure, look for the programmable buttons on your visor, overhead console, or covered in your owner's manual.
If not, like the others said, you can pick up most brand's transmitters from wherever they are sold. If that's not convenient, they are almost certainly available online.

Oh I wish I had that in my car! Unfortunately my car is old and about to break down. Maybe in the next one!!
Thanks for the help guys, I'll swing by Home Depot and look what they have.
On ours, programming a new remote involved pressing a square red button on the side of the operator (you may need a ladder to get up there) and something on the new remote.
Programming the homelink system was the same way.
Its easy; just follow the instructions.
